Lentils cook in about 20 minutes. They add a nice flavor to the chili.
- 2 pounds ground chuck
- 6 oz dried lentils
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce (8 oz)
- 4 TBL chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 onion, chopped
- cayenne pepper, to taste
Cook and stir beef in a large skillet until beef is gray. Drain fat.
Stir in onion, garlic and occasionally stir 5 minutes.
Stir in chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper.
Add tomato sauce, lentils, and enough water to cover by at least at least 1 inch.
Simmer, stirring occasionally, 25 minutes. Add water, if necessary.
